David Sunderland's website
This site lists various activities I have been involved with over the last five years. My one-page CV is downloadable in English and French (both Word) although these do not have the hyperlinks below.
I have been living in Paris since January 2004 and am a British citizen. Since January 2005 I have been working for the IIEP - International Institute for Educational Planning - which is part of UNESCO. My work has mainly been supporting a US$9 million fund on HIV/AIDS as well as doing research on 'external educational finance' (overseas aid for education).
Oxfam
I became a Trustee of Agir ici,
the French Associate Member of the Oxfam International confederation in May
2005 (I also volunteered for them for several months in 2004). For Oxfam
GB, I have been a non-Trustee member of their Association (a body which
plays a role in the governance of the organisation) since 2000. This is in additional
to being a volunteer since 1991, which has involved mainly campaigning in the
UK.
Overseas Development
Institute (ODI)
I have been a Research Associate with ODI since July 2004, having done work
including coordinating a study on European public opinion on multilateral aid
and facilitating various e-consultations
for the 'Commission for Africa'.
Before this, I was Personal Assistant to the Director from March 2002 to January
2004.
Study on UK international development sector
Volunteering with Coordination SUD
(the French national NGO platform) for a few months in 2004, I produced a 50-page
panorama study on the International Development sector in Great Britain. This
can be downloaded here in Word, along with a Powerpoint
summary of the key points in English and French.
MSc in Development
Management with the UK Open University
I started this (distance learning) course part-time in May 2005.
Society of Friends
(Quakers)
I am a Member of Hampstead Preparative Meeting. Between 2001-2004, I was centrally
involved in the Young Friends Mental Health Concern,
including roles of coordination and fundraising. This included building and
maintaining a website.
The concern sought to increase awareness about, and reduce the stigma around,
mental health issues.
Peace-Now.info
Full-time feasibility study I undertook between October-December 2001 which
looked at setting up an Internet database of peace initiatives.
The Intermundia Project
A pilot project I directed between July-November 2000 which looked at the possibility
of using the Internet to help link up similar civil society groups in Ghana
and the UK.
